Oluwakemi Ugwu
Managing Director & CEO
Kemi holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Ilorin and a Masters in Information Technology from the University of Lagos. She served as a pioneer youth corp member in Adesoye College, Offa in 1997 and was retained. Kemi became the pioneer Computer Officer before joining Access Bank in 2000 as an Assistant Database Administrator. Kemi was redeployed as the pioneer Acting Head of Cash Management Unit and was later made the pioneer Unit Head (Relationship Manager) for the Insurance desk in the Financial Institutions Department. She joined UBA in 2005 and was seconded to UBA Pensions same year as the Pioneer Head of the Information and Communication Department a position she held for over 12 years before her redeployment as Head Contributions Processing. She is currently the Managing Director & CEO of NUPEMCO. Kemi has also attended several professional courses and training programmes at various levels and is an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme of Lagos Business School.
Oputa Ifeanyichukwu Danny
Head, Risk Management
Danny is the Head of Risk Management in Nigerian University Pension Management Company Ltd (NUPEMCO).
In his current position, he coordinates the risk management functions and brings a systematic and proactive approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance. Before joining NUPEMCO, he was the Head of Investment Risk Unit in Premium Pension Limited. A position he held for five years.
Danny holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from university of Abuja. He is also a PECB ISMS Lead Auditor and a Cyber Security Manager. In addition, he is a member of Risk Managers Association of Nigeria, GARP and PRMIA. He is a PECB certified trainer, speaker, and panelist.
He has vast experience in risk management and internal control. He has attended numerous trainings on risk management, leadership and other industry specific trainings.
Aliyu Atiku is an Information Technology Specialist with more than 20years’ experience in requirement analysis, system analysis, system design, programming, relational database, system administration and information technology management in ICT, Telecommunications and Pension Industries. Before his current appointment, he was the Chief Technical Officer at Sigma Pensions Limited. He also held the position of Head, Client Management Services Unit in charge of customer service delivery improvement drives and technologies as well as clients' data management in Sigma between 2013 and 2014.He joined the Sigma Pension Limited in 2013 from Premium Pension Limited where he had served as the Head, Information Technology Department from February, 2008 to April, 2013. As Head, IT he managed the implementation and running of the information systems of the company and established a track record for accomplishing tasks through optimum utilization of allocated resources. He was also responsible for the design of various interfaces between applications used within the company.
He was the Head, System Administration in the Information Technology Department of Nigeria Telecommunications Ltd (NITEL) and Lead the Test / Project Team that saw the successful deployment of the most ambitious end-to-end revenue assurance Mediation, Interconnect, and International Calls Reconciliation Project code-named NIIMA. Before joining NITEL he was a Lecturer at Waziri Umar Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi teaching Computer Science. His short stay in the Polytechnic witnessed the introduction of Diploma Course in Computer Studies and re-structuring of the Computer Centre to NBTE Standard.
Aliyu has attended many courses including CGEIT: (Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT) at Koenig, India, Palladium Kaplan-Norton Balanced Scorecard, CIO 360 Degree Course-IT Management Boot Camp, Six Sigma Black Belt, Operational Risk Management, Oracle Database Administration, Intermediate Essentials and Administration, Intermediate GDC Scripting Course and Sun Solaris Administration.
Aliyu holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership & Sustainability from Robert Kennedy College, University of Cumbria, UK and is a graduate of Computer Science from ATBU, Bauchi.
Lwanga Agbata
Head, Benefits Administration
Lwanga Agbata commenced his professional journey in April 2000 at A New Generation Limited, located in Lagos, assuming the position of Accountant. Subsequently, he transitioned to the now-defunct Oceanic Bank International Nigeria Limited, specifically its Kaduna branch, where he served as a Teller. Within the bank, he held various roles such as Cash Officer, Head of Funds Transfer, Head of Operations, and Relationship Manager. Following his involvement in consulting for a brief period, Lwanga ventured into the pension industry in October 2014. Initially employed as a Finance Officer at Trustfund Pensions Limited, he later shifted to Benefits Administration, serving as a Benefit Officer.
Subsequently, he joined the Nigerian University Pensions Management Company Limited as a Benefits Officer, progressing to his current position as the head of the Benefits Administration Department. In this role, he assumes responsibility for the efficient management of the processing and disbursement of retirement benefits to eligible Retirement Savings Account holders and beneficiaries.
Lwanga Agbata is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He holds membership as an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), and the Risk Management Association of Nigeria (RIMAN). With a wealth of experience exceeding 20 years, Lwanga has cultivated expertise across the domains of banking, consulting, and pension administration.
Ijeoma P. Mfon-Umoh
Chief Compliance Officer
Ijeoma P. Mfon-Umoh heads the Compliance Department which is charged with the responsibility of proactively managing regulatory risks.
She has a 20-year post-graduation wide-ranging experience in financial services most of which are in the Nigerian pension industry, giving her a rich hands-on pension-industry experience.
She commenced her career in 2001 with Aptech Computer Education where she also trained in and obtained a Certificate of Proficiency in Information Systems Management (CPISM) in Information Technology and later moved to the defunct Express Discount Limited (Discount House) as a Supervisor in charge of Operations and Liaison with the Head Office, Lagos. Before joining NUPEMCO, Ijeoma was a pioneer staff of Legacy Pension Managers Limited (now FCMB Pensions). Her roles in FCMB Pensions within the 13-year stay spanned key departments such as the Executive Office, Investment, Benefits Administration and Compliance. She initiated a comprehensive Compliance Audit Work Plan that reflected the organization’s unique compliance characteristics and tracked compliance risk issues across the various Departments.
Ijeoma holds a BA in History and M.Sc in Industrial Sociology & Personnel Management from reputable Nigerian Universities. She has received extensive training ranging from industry-specific to team building and leadership development programs.
Oluwadamilola Shajobi-Oseghale
Company Secretary-Legal Adviser
Oluwadamilola Shajobi-Oseghale heads the Legal department which is responsible for the provision of transaction, strategy, and legal advisory to the Company in all its activities.
Damilola is an associate member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), UK and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK), the Nigerian Bar Association.
She holds a master’s degree in Law from University of Abuja and in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University Business School, London, UK.
Stanley Ihi's Igbinedion
Chief Financial Officer
Stanley Ihi’s Igbinedion acts as the Chief Financial Officer of Nigerian University Pension Management Company Limited.
He has more than 2 decades of working experience, mostly with the major PFAs in Nigeria. He is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Senior Associate of Risk Managers Association of Nigeria.
He studied Accounting and Finance at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for his BSc and MSc programs.
Cynthia Gayya
Head, Operations Department
Cynthia V. Gayya heads the Operations Department which is charged with the responsibility of proactively managing all back-end customer transactions.
She has a 19-year post-graduation wide-ranging experience in financial services most of which are in the Nigerian pension industry, giving her a rich hands-on pension-industry experience.
She commenced her career in 2002 with Express Portfolio Services where she gained a vast knowledge in investments as an administrative personnel and supervisor in charge of Operations at the Head Office in Kaduna. Before joining NUPEMCO, Cynthia was a pioneer staff of Legacy Pension Managers Limited (now FCMB Pensions). Her roles in FCMB Pensions within the 13-year stay spanned key departments like Business Development and Operations. She was instrumental in the signing up of employees of the Universal Basic Education which earned her acommendation from the Executive Management of the PFA. She also instituted the Reconciliation Unit which helped considerably in the clean-up of over 90-million-Naira unreconciled funds of the PFA.
Cynthia holds a B.Sc in Business Management from the University of Jos. She has attended several professional trainings in Team Building and Leadership Development.
Hussaini Wada
Head, Internal Audit
Hussaini Wada is the Head, Internal Audit Department.
He joined Nigerian University Pension Management Company (Nupemco) in 2020 and has over 20 years’ experience in Audit and Accounting.
He started his career as audit trainee with Muhtari Dangana & Co. He has been involved in the Audit of Government parastatals (PTF, NNPC, M-Tel, PHCN etc.), Pension Fund Administrators and other private organizations. He left Muhtari Dangana & Co. For Sigma Pensions Ltd. in 2007 where he served in various departments of back-end operations as Head of Unit such as; Fund Accounting for over 10 years and was accounting for all Funds under Management, Benefit Administration, Contribution Processing and Matching and Internal Control & Audit Departments. While in Sigma Pensions Ltd., he played very active role in the migration of Fund Accounting Data from PFA Manager to the core business application, CPAS.
He holds a bachelor’s Science degree in Economics from Bayero University Kano Nigeria. He also holds an MSc. in Business Administration from National Open University of Nigeria, Certified National Accountant, Member Institute of Internal Auditors, Senior Member Certified Institute of Loans & Risk Management and Member Certified International Financial Reporting Standard Specialist (CIFRSS).
Hussaini attended several professional training courses both at home and abroad.
Arinze Ononwu
Head, Investment
Arinze is Nupemco’s Chief Investment Officer.
He brings extensive experience in wealth management, risk and compliance with over18 years’ experience. Before joining Nupemco, Arinze was employed by Sigma Pensions Limited, Zenith General Insurance Company Limited and NIPCO Plc.
Arinze is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a graduate of Accountancy from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu.
Samaila Bitrus
Head, HR & Admin
Bitrus Samaila is the Head of Human Resources and Administration of Nigerian University Pension Management Company Limited (NUPEMCO), where he is responsible for the execution of the HR strategy for the Company. He also oversees the administration unit.
He has 20 years post-graduation experience spanning Human Resource Management, administration and lecturing. Prior to joining NUPEMCO, he worked with National Universities Commission, Adamawa State university and Kano State Polytechnic.
Bitrus is an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Rural Development from the Federal University of Technology Yola. In addition, he has Master’s in Public Administration, and he is currently a PhD student at the University of Jos.
Bitrus has many publications to his name and as a public speaker and presenter, he has delivered numerous papers at conferences, seminars and workshops on man power planning and development.
Abubakar Mohammed
Head, Business Development
Abubakar Mohammed holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy, a post Graduate in Management. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and has also attended several Leadership and Management training.
Abubakar is member of the following Professional bodies; Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.
He is entrepreneurial and with many years of experience in both the Public and Private sectors. He has at different times held the positions of a Regional Head and Head of Department leading to his present role as Head, Business Development.
His hobbies are traveling, networking and watching television.
